- Fixed braces (silver and ceramic)
Alignment of your teeth
The final position of teeth is usually determined by genetics and also factors such as tongue, lips and habits we might develop like thumb sucking. Crowded teeth, extra and missing teeth, and teeth that may have erupted wrong positions or jaws that are out of alignment can lead to wrong positioning of individual teeth and the relationship of the teeth to each other and to the jawbone in which they are held. You may also be surprised to learn that straight teeth are less prone to decay, gum disease and injury. When teeth are properly aligned, they are easier to clean – enabling decay causing plaque to be removed. As for injuries to teeth, protruding upper teeth are more likely to be broken in an accident. When they are realigned into the correct position, the risk of fracture is decreased significantly. Orthodontic treatment can be carried out by braces, which are bonded to the teeth or in simpler cases by wearing a plate that can be removed by the patient.
Age at which you can have orthodontics treatment
Early Treatment: A From about 7- 9 year olds. This is often treatment that attempts to influence or affect bone growth e.g. palatal dividers or expansion.
Teenage Treatment:A Most people are able to start orthodontic treatment once the last baby teeth are lost. This varies from about the ages of 11 years to 16 years. Often this treatment involves a person with teeth that are too big to fit into their mouth neatly. Usually braces are used.
Adult treatment :Â Often treatment for adults is longer and more uncomfortable than for children. Because bone growth has slowed down severe problems may involve jaw surgery and braces. Don't be "put off" seeking treatment because braces can often correct minor irregularities that annoy adults for life. Adult orthodontic treatment can include the up righting to teeth so successful bridgework can be competed the close a gap made by extractions
How orthodontic treatment works?
During your first visit to ‘The Dentist’ Dr. Arvind will examine your teeth, mouth and face. He will answer any questions you may have about your orthodontic health and treatment and we will get to know you. Detailed records will be taken including photos of your teeth and face, models of the jaws and x-rays of your teeth, jaws and jaw joints. It is very important to have the jaw functioning correctly before straightening of your teeth is started.
At second visit, Dr Arvind will outline the treatment plan that he has prepared for you. Included in this treatment plan will be your varying treatment options and the treatment times involved. Dr Arvind will be happy to discuss any questions you may have regarding your proposed treatment plan. The process will be a gradual subtle movement over a period of time.
- Constant light force moves teeth through bone.
- Teeth can move through the bone they sit in. Bone can change shape and be remoulded. Teeth are harder than bone. As long as you don't push a tooth hard enough to break/snap it, then the bone will dissolve out of the tooth way and reform as the tooth move.
- The most common way to apply force to a tooth is by using wires that have a 'memory'. The wire is bent and connected to a tooth. As the wire straightens to the shape it "remembers" the tooth moves with it.
- Teeth can move it a fixed plastic mould is worn to place constant pressure on the teeth. To move the teeth in complex ways a series of plastic moulds are made and worn in succession.
During your treatment we will continue to care for your teeth by having a Preventive Care appointment. If your teeth are not professionally cleaned and examined twice a year you will develop serious tartar build up on the teeth and staining around the brackets which can affect the end result when your braces are removed. ’The Dentist’ promises to achieve the optimal result at competitive prices. We will help you to achieve a beautiful straight smile of which you are both proud and confident.
